ICHI (2008)

Ichi is a blind entertainer that travels the countryside with her traditional Japanese guitar and walking stick. She's in search for the kind man that brought her up as a child, but because of her beauty she encounters problems every step of the way. Slow in spots, and somewhat frustrating, but a wonderful rendering of a new take on Ronin and classic samurai myths. Won't appeal to those who think American formulaic film is best.

Now that I'm watching the Zatoichi series again I felt that it was proper to watch all the incarnations of the legendary show (not gonna watch Blind Fury again). So I watched this "Ichi", a way gloomer version of the sometimes comedic Zatoichi. I think that they tried to hint that Zaoichi might have been her father but I highly doubt that he had time to father a child. She was left by this bind swordfighter of a father and thus she has a lot of unresolved issues. This is actually not halfbad and when there's no more Zatoichi this is very good substitute.

A slow and plodding martial arts action movie that is surprisingly light on action and heavy on cliche tragedy and comic book bad guys. The only good thing that can really be said about this movie is that what action exists is exceptional.

beautiful soundtrack and action scenes...a wonderful movie if you are into these types of movies...if you have never seen zatoichi then youre probably not going to get much of the backstory here...the only disappointment is that they used an actual person instead of just like showing her dad from shoulders down because it ruined the illusion if you will of her father a bit....but a small problem for a wonderful movie..buy it on blu ray..its worth it.
