Sam, a neurodivergent man, has a daughter with a homeless woman who abandons them when they leave the hospital, leaving Sam to raise Lucy on his own. But as Lucy grows up, Sam's limitations as a parent start to become a problem and the authorities take her away. Sam convinces high-priced lawyer Rita to take his case pro bono and in turn teaches her the value of love and family.

Just finished watching this and the tears are still streaming down my face. Completely heartbreaking is the only way to describe this. The ending is just insanely sweet. I have always been a huge fan of Sean Penn and this movie only confirmed it and Dakota was truly brilliant too.

some people and critics panned it saying it was simplistic, but i really loved this movie, the acting, the ideas presented. a big thumbs up.

This is arguably a tragedy. It's here because at points it is very tragic. And if you keep in mind how realistic the outcome is in the end, then you might find the tragedy that is the judicial system in America.
