Cook and Zen priest Edward Brown is profiled in this documentary by German filmmaker Doris Dörrie (Men), who follows the witty, pleasant Brown as he offers cooking and life lessons in Buddhist retreats in Austria and California.

changed my view to food, I would like to incorporate the perspective in real life that means was very inspriring for me the Zen Chef himself, appreciaition of food and the spirituality around...

I liked the Zen Master Dogan's saying - Don't waste even a grain of rice, it is as if your eye! It's unbelievable that we all waste tons of food while people are dying because of starvation. I think it's a nice documentary even though I find Master Brown a bit unstable person;)

It gives one a good sense of the Zen experience in cooking.

Amy Nicholson 24 Oct 2007

Despite the film's repeated exhortations that humans need to be more humble about who is cooking whom, the broccoli continues to seem inert.
