An abundantly earnest look at the pain of loss and the rebirth of new love that somehow feels wholly original and familiar at the same time.

Pros: 1) Scarlett Johansson's voice acting 2) A compelling love story we can invest in 3) The parallels between the acceptability of AI relationships and LGBT ones 4) Spike Jonze's limited use of camera angles 5) Realistic dialogue 6) The development of Samantha 7) The antisocial view of future society 8) Genuine humor 9) Heartbreaking but fulfilling ending Cons: 1) Phoenix's mumbling 2) The use of certain supporting characters makes them feel like cardboard 3) Can be a little more creepy than romantic or moving at times

Spinke Jonze nailed what it would seem as a ridiculous premise into a powerfully touching and intense romantic drama, with superb performances, specially by a non-physical Scarlett Johansson, and a particularly melancholic Joaquin Phoenix, all in perfect synchrony with an amazing set up, great esthetic united with a strong direction, beautifully sad writing, and the heartwarming story of the struggle of relationships and breakups, all in an excelled and elegant simplicity.

Ironically, Spike Jonze's "Her" is probably one of the most honest depictions of human relationships ever put to film. Joaquin Phoenix gives what may be tied with PTA's "The Master" for his best performance. Scarlett Johansson is, evidently, a great voice actor, and Spike Jonze shows that you can associate yourself with Johnny Knoxville and beautiful art at the same time.
