A great film compared to most Filipino films, Heneral Luna is a solid film with an interesting story, and a heartfelt ending, though it has flaws in it.

I’m only a little embarrassed at liking Heneral Luna, an audaciously manipulative movie that’s more involving than it should be. But really, when a film works this hard to rouse you, there’s no shame in just giving in.

It's not a perfect film. But Filipinos need to see it. It's a blood-soaked mirror that reflects the Filipino's faults and his most redeeming strengths. Like Luna, we have the potential to rise above our "talangka" mentality. Damn if this film didn't stir my nationalistic fervor!
