Laurie Anderson has crafted an experimental film that at first seems like it's going to be a paean to her dearly departed rat terrier. But over its meandering 75 minutes it gradually blossoms into something much deeper.

This is cinematic free association, with one tangent leading to another and another until you've forgotten the original thread.

I'm torn because on one hand I LOVE certain parts of this. The story about the hawks I first heard at her art show dedicated to her dog in the bardo and it made me cry. If this entire movie had been an hour long radio special I would have adored it. But visually it's really boring when she doesn't have clips of her actual dog or photos of her art going. Too much rain filters over bokeh lights for my taste. But there's good stuff in here and I appreciated it. All in all, inconsistent but good.

Anderson's salutation to Lolabelle may crush the animal lovers in the audience: 'Hello little bonehead, I'll love you forever.'

This movie is like a poem that takes you deep. It has moved and touched me deeply. After watching it, it ook me a while to stabilize back into physical reality. I recommend it highly. A definite gem and not a run of the mill kinda film. It is creatively and uniquely put together. Do not miss it. There is a huge portion about her dog and it is beautiful. If you have a dog you love, you will appreciate this for sure!
