A cloying, but affecting Zhang Yimou melodrama. Funny and sad at the same time. Not one of Zhang Yimou's best works, but still colorful and entertaining plot.

Like all Chinese films, this is really really really depressing. Let me stress this again: This makes Baby Jesus cry. Its a great film probably because its so sad. Definitely better than watching a bunch of Asians jumping around like circus monkeys. These guys actually act!
