This marital satire doesn't have quite the spark of a Rock Hudson/Doris Day movie, but it's still enjoyable for a rainy afternoon. Jack Lemmon made a whole string of light comedies in the 60's and this is definitely one of the better ones.

I hadn't seen Good Neighbor Sam in decades, and I must say it is not as good as I remembered it (as a youngster). Still, if you are a fan of Jack Lemmon, or like the Mad Men era in (white) America, it is a must-see. Then you have gorgeous costars Dorothy Provine and Romy Schneider, and what's not to like? Well, it is essentially a 2-hour (that's right, it is long!) situation comedy, and Jack portrays, as usual, Everyman, who gets caught up in a situation that "spirals out of control" as movie ads say. It has many funny parts, with the situation being the part of the plot that keeps the viewer involved, wondering how are Sam and his wif Min (Provine) going to get out of THIS jam! Fun to watch, just a little too long. An added inducement is seeing Edward G. Robinson in a character role.

"good neighbor sam" could have been a lot more fun if it wasn't so long. the film is essentially a one joke pony, so to drag it on for 2.1 hours is quite unnecessary.
