I actually wanted more musical numbers considering Busby Berkeley directed this. The movie is more of a romantic comedy than a full-pledge musical. It is still fun to watch. Grade: B

Not really my cup of tea, but the choreographed, dancing pianos have to be seen to be believed. The final dance number is what I imagine Riverdance would look like if it was performed inside Charles Foster Kane's Xanadu and directed by Leni Riefenstahl. But there's just too much padding in the first hour of the film.

This film, like most of Berkeley's, was made to showcase his incredible song and dance numbers. Because of this, the story is very weak. But, like I said, incredible song and dance.

If Gold Diggers of 1935 wasn't quite up to its predecessor, it's probably the fault of the newly enforced Production Code.

Not Berkeley's best (Dames gets my nod) but a very pleasant diversion all the same. The closing "Lullaby of Broadway" is way, way over the top. If you get bored, fast forward there - just don't miss it.
