another excellent movie reviewed way too bad good story, fine acting, great 80's look & feel

Great movie loosely based on the BRE-X mining scandal that took place in the 90's. The actual mining scandal has so many twists and turns and surprises that Hollywood didnt need to add any of their own. If I had one nitpick about this version I would say a little less McConaughey and a little more story telling. While MM's transformation into Kenny Wells was just as spectacular as his stint in Dallas Buyers Club, it was unnecessary and over the top here as the true story of this scam is outrageous enough.

It's McConaughey's great big performance and the fine work by the outstanding cast that carries the day in Gold, an uneven and overlong but nonetheless entertaining American Dream saga.

It has its highly entertaining moments, and there is some fun to be had in McConaughey's madly over-zealous performance but it is derivative and there are so many storytelling impulses on the go that none has any hope of ever hitting home.
