Going Ape! (1981)

When his father - who owned a circus - dies, Oscar inherits 5 million dollars - and 3 orangutans. However there's a condition connected to the money: if he gives away the apes or just one gets sick or dies during the next 3 years, the zoologic society will get all the money. So he not only has to deal with 3 apes and an annoyed girlfriend, but also with a greedy zoologic society's president.

Hot on the heels of the seminal orangutan comedy "Every Which Way But Loose" comes this Tony Danza/Danny Devito orangutan comedy that ups the ante with three orangutans! Lowbrow does not begin to describe the comedy in this film. "Every Which Way But Loose" is Shakespeare compared to this. Still, I'm quite partial to monkey/ape oriented comedy, so I probably enjoyed this than most viewers. And if you're curious, writer/director Jeremy Joe Kronsberg is actually the screenwriter behind "Every Which Way But Loose," his only other screenwriting credit.

Two Taxi co-stars play straight men against three orangutangs. Mostly embarrassing gags such as breaking furniture and throwing food. I kept hoping Danza would ditch his indignant girlfriend and start anew with the $5 mil inheritance.

this is one of those movies where I wish I could have seen it when it came out in theaters, just so i could look at the person next to me when the movie was over and ask "did that really happen?"

I'm watching this movie currently 10/9/07, at 6:50pm, on mute (problems?) and every single moment is glaringly glorious.
