The Kid Brother is the story about a proud family of lawmen, the Hickorys. Who's the most respected and most reliable men in Hickoryville, The Father, Sheriff Jim, and his two sons Leo and Olin, who's following in their father's footsteps. But every family has it's black sheep, and in this case it's the youngest son, Harold (Harold Lloyd) who's big klutz and unfit to play along with his masculine family. One day when he pretends to be a sheriff, some medicine people mistakes him for the sheriff, and Harold plays along and gives them permission to perform at the town square. Something that his father would never had allowed, and that causes great consequences. Harold Lloyd is as always funny and inventive. With his trade mark glasses, he was what at that time (and also today) was considered a nerd. He's no Buster Keaton, but there's some pretty funny slapstick moments. Thumbs up.

The Kid Brother is one of Harold Lloyd's best efforts. It's certainly the most emotionally gratifying and most heart-warming of Lloyd's films that I've seen, but it's not the funniest. There were some great moments of comedy genius, but a good majority of the jokes feel outdated and flat. Despite this, the entire experience is still very enjoyable. It may not but a hilarious laughter-fest, and the writing is somewhat shoddy, but there are a lot of brilliant moments of physical comedy, and emotional connection, and it makes for a great experience.

Like in his other films, Harold Lloyd plays a sympathetic loser who overcomes his shortcomings to save the day and get the girl in "The Kid Brother". It's got plenty of laughs, adventure, and some pretty good action sequences, including a lengthy fight scene on an abandoned ship against a villain twice his size!

Winsome love story and another great choreographed film of his. The climbing of the tree scene always gets me all the time.
