Hokey cold-war sci-fi melodrama with a fairly considerable body count. Moderately entertaining, but completely predictable from about the 20 minute mark.

Released in 3-D in 1954, Gog is one of the earliest "robot gone bad" films. If you love classic Sci-Fi, this one's for you.

I actually thought this was quite good. Is it dated? Of course! It was made 60+ years ago! So there are attitudes and science that really don't hold up, but the core idea is strong because it avoids a couple of the most obvious tropes and instead aims to be a kind of techno-thriller. I went in with the low expectations I have for the majority of of 50s SF, not every film can be Them!, Day The Earth Stood Still, or Thing From Another World. But this is a clever enough film that it overcomes most of it's flaws.

There can be no doubt as to where the makers of Gog stood on the McCarthy witch hunts . . .

Pretty fun SF with an emphasis on the former. The harrowing scenes of female protagonists being menaced by berzerk robots and stray laser beams are campy by today's standards, but more enjoyable for it. Apparently, this was made with 3D exhibition in mind - but distributed in 2D. This again adds to the comic value of the set pieces, but there is a lot of filler with hard men of science spouting off monologues in between. This is from a time when having your leading man slap an hysterical woman on screen at a climactic point was a dramatic plus.
