Intense, beautiful, & real, the smallest details are amazing, such as when the main character smiles for the first time or when the escape of alcohol to forget the hard life he has to bare ends. There is no need to say "I love you", when you show it in so many ways. This treats the viewer with respect and intelligence. A film to haunt you for a long time.

"God's own country" is a soulful movie created by someone with great passion and a very unique eye. Though the pattern of the story is a very familiar one, it is done with such respect to the characters that it never felt forced at all. Sure the struggles the protagonist is going through are not new, but the way O' Connor portrayed them,in such a humane way,achieved a level of reality that's not always present in movies with such storyline. It works on many levels mainly because of the great performances by both leads who managed to shape their characters into real people. The cinematography is breathtaking and enhances the storytelling. Francis Lee created something really beautiful here and he gave us what was lacking in these type of romances. Happy,hopeful endings.

It's a slow build and at times hard to watch, but God's Own Country is tremendously moving. It's as much about the power of kindness as it is a romance, which is not to undersell the beauty of something that actually looks like real love. The actors are amazing and I might be in love with Alec Secareanu.

I agree with the observation this is the mirror of Call Me By Your Name, which is high class and privilege and ends differently. And it's also the mirror of Brokeback Mountain, which is of the same class structure, but ends differently. It's easily one of my favorite movies now. .
