These scenes put the strong young cast through their paces, with Schnetzer in particular giving a breakout performance that encapsulates Neel's exploration of masculinity and its faults.

Despite not hitting on all the themes it attempts to talk about, "Goat" is a surprisingly creative and ambitious movie.

Definitely a tough watch. But worth it for the thought-provoking and intense moments and the really solid performances, especially from Schnetzer.

Arguably uses its story to make its point more than it lets the story unfold to reveal its point, but it's still a powerful, scary and affecting glimpse into the damaged psyche of the young, American male. This is a good, necessary film.
