Oppressed by her family setting, dead-end school prospects and the boys law in the neighborhood, Marieme starts a new life after meeting a group of three free-spirited girls. She changes her name, her dress code, and quits school to be accepted in the gang, hoping that this will be a way to freedom.

This movie captures the teenage dilemma the drive to fit in and the drive to be a good person. Many times conflicting and in the ghetto it is more pronounced. Older girls teaching younger girls to be more sexual. We see the same thing now with the Atlanta based black dance troops TV shows. This movie gave me pause (what are we "teaching" young women to value?)
