Giant (1956)

Wealthy rancher Bick Benedict and dirt-poor cowboy Jett Rink both woo Leslie Lynnton, a beautiful young woman from Maryland who is new to Texas. She marries Benedict, but she is shocked by the racial bigotry of the White Texans against the local people of Mexican descent. Rink discovers oil on a small plot of land, and while he uses his vast, new wealth to buy all the land surrounding the Benedict ranch, the Benedict's disagreement over prejudice fuels conflict that runs across generations.

Giant is an excellent film. Elizabeth Taylor, James Dean, and Rock Hudson gave incredible performances. The screenplay is well written. George Stevens did an amazing job directing this movie. I enjoyed this film because the great characters. Giant is a must see motion picture.

Absolutely a perfect film and my favorite performances from Liz, Rock and James. Also loved that Sal Mineo and Dennis Hopper had smaller roles in the flick. I've never read the Edna Ferber book but at over 3 hours long, I have to assume that this is a pretty thorough adaptation. This is one of those rare films that despite its length, I can sit through for repeat viewings and never get tired of it. I'm a sucker for a period piece that spans generations!
