Eight-year old Julius lives at an orphanage. Julius is a bit of an outsider, and secretly still believes in Santa Claus. When he is confronted with the fact that Santa Claus may just be the headmaster of the orphanage dressing up, Julius loses not only his belief in Santa - also his belief in himself. But then something strange happens, and suddenly Julius finds himself in a magic world.

Even though Get Santa isn't the best family-friendly Christmas comedy out there, Jim Broadbent shines brightly in the titular role and the film remains funny enough to serve as an entertaining movie that offers another fine taste of British comedy.

Get Santa is a mess. However, despite some questionable character decisions (GO SEE YOUR PAROLE OFFICER!) and the fantasy elements being a bit boring, it's a sincere and often really fun mess. Funny, bright, well-directed and comfortably familiar, it fits in nicely with fantasy-meets-reality family Christmas films like Elf and Santa Clause. Nothing transcendent, but certainly a worthy addition to the holiday canon.
