Funny movie. The concierges of The Savoy are also hilarious and their dialogue with Firth makes for some of the biggest laughs of the film.

I loved this movie! A very theatrical farce. A bit of predictability in romantic connotations...and a bit confusing at the end, but the situational comedy and the physical comedy consistently evoked belly-laughs. A great weekend afternoon flick.

When Gambit does work (Deaneâ(TM)s Savoy escape sequence) it manages to get some genuine laughs and fun out of the proceedings. Sadly there is always that crushing reminder (a cheap fart gag for instance) that this is one of the Coenâ(TM)s weaker writing efforts and director Michael Hoffman (The Last Station) seems unsure how to handle it as a result. You could do worse but from a capable director, Oscar winning writers and a multiple award-winning cast, Gambit just feels as though it could and should have been more than what is here. A silly remake that could have approached good, were it not for a script that feels like an early draft and an overall feeling of unimportance.
