Harry Dean is a career burglar set on stealing a piece of priceless art from the world's wealthiest man, Mr. Shahbandar. With the help of exotic showgirl Nicole Chang, he concocts the perfect scheme for how the robbery should go and lays it out point by point. However, when the team tries to execute the plan, perfection and reality don't quite match up, and Harry's vision begins to unravel in this twisty tale of a heist gone wrong.

This was quite a bit better than I expected it to be. Michael Caine recruits the unsuspecting Shirley MacLaine to assist him in the heist of a valuable piece of sculpture from the richest man in the world. I especially like how they mislead you at the beginning, but I won't give that part away any more than that. Check this one out, especially if you like jewel-thief/heist themed movies, its another classic.

wow umn just seen this movie 4 the 1st time n think that this is a good movie 2 watch.....its got a good cast of actors/actressess throughout this movie.....i think that arnold moss, herbert lom, john abbott, michael caine, shirley maclaine, richard angarola, roger c carmel play good roles/parts throughout this movie.......i think that the director of this heist/drama/thriller movie had done a good job of directing this movie because you never know what 2 expect thorughout this movie.....i think that michael caine is brilliant thorughout this movie.....i think that this is a good heist movie with a good cast thorughout this movie its a good movie 2 watch

A rather interesting little lost gem of a film, GAMBIT plays with all the conventions of the "heist movie" formula in some incredibly clever ways. Both MacLaine and Caine were at the top of their game in this one, and I'm not sure why the film isn't a more talked about one from their respective careers. The opening 30 minutes of the film is also a downright brilliant fake-out for just about everything that follows it. Right now this flick is currently available on Netflix instant queue, so I highly recommend checking it out if you're at all a fan of heist movies, or just clever writing.

Breezy and quite entertaining 1960s heist film along the lines of "Topkapi" or "The Italian Job." Michael Caine makes his Hollywood debut as a English cat burglar pulling off the perfect heist with the help of Eurasian dancer Shirley MacLaine. Herbert Lom plays the owner of their target. Caine is good, but MacLaine is utterly charming (if you can put aside the ugly Hollywood tradition of white actors playing ethnic parts). Caine is rather cold in her part, but still good. MacLaine is the real star here and her star makes this film very much worth watching. Directed by Ronald Neame and written by Alvin Sargent (who's been writing since the 1950s and who's still working today, most recently just writing the script for the last three Spiderman films). Well worth watching, especially for MacLaine fans.

It was really nice and funny story. I started to watch it on TV at 3am, but I couldn't sleep until its finishing.
