Free State of Jones (2016)

In 1863, Mississippi farmer Newt Knight serves as a medic for the Confederate Army. Opposed to slavery, Knight would rather help the wounded than fight the Union. After his nephew dies in battle, Newt returns home to Jones County to safeguard his family but is soon branded an outlaw deserter. Forced to flee, he finds refuge with a group of runaway slaves hiding out in the swamps. Forging an alliance with the slaves and other farmers, Knight leads a rebellion that would forever change history.

A must see if you're sick and tired of cartoons and dumb comedies, re-makes, and just re-cycled BS. Good acting, directing, cinematography; extremely graphic war scenes and the historical info is totally enlightening and relevant now. Bravo to all!

The critics got this movie wrong, and it begs to question their credibility. This is an outstanding movie that depicts a nasty history of our great nation. Go watch it

Newton knight was a hero in his time the things he did for humanity back then impacted a lot of the things we now see and have today. He was a man with morals and his belief was you can not own a child of God. This movie was great and a must see and it's a shame that his story is not told more throughout schools for he his apart of history for in bringing up America

The cinematics and realness of this film may have been partially responsible for the audience which attest to it being 'boring'. The film does a wonderful job following the pains and drags of the time and in capturing a bit of the mundane also captures an emotional, raw, and truly captivating reality.
