Wonderful 'gaslight' melodrama with Stewart Granger and Jean Simmons set in the fog-shrouded streets of Victorian London. The plot is full of shocking twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the very last moments.

Enjoyable Victorian drama about some very unscrupulous people. Sumptuous production values and Jean looks very beautiful.

Modestly well done 50s murder melodrama, shamelessly borrowing elements from superior classics like Gaslight, Rebecca and The Lodger, but with a psychologically implausible plot and rather overdone Benjamin Frankel score. Stewart Granger is very good as the dastardly villain, his (real) wife Jean Simmons does what she can as his housekeeper, Bill Travers is characteristically clunky as Granger's love rival.
