I love pre-codes and I love pre-codes with Ruth Chatterton in them. Seeing Chatterton in a movie, unfortunately a mostly forgotten actress, is like discovering a hidden treasure. Despite the safe ending I like to think, and I believe many others would see it this way, that eventually her true nature would re-assert itself. There is no way that the character and more over Chatterton's characterization of her could be content as a by stander. One thing though, that I'll never understand, is this idea that George Brent was something for women to fall over themselves for. I mean since when is lameness an attractive quality?

Really enjoyed the man eater character of Ruth Chatterton in this pre-code flick where she runs an auto company and treats her male employees however she wishes. Amusing. Sags near the end when she finds her feminine side and some stereotyped statements about the role of women. Even so, the pig with the bow and the end was somewhat satisfactory and perhaps she find a happy medium? Easily the first movie of sexual harassment instigated by a woman at least the only one I can think of.

Ruth Chatterton beds her subordinates, wears pants, barks at her receptionist and is generally as scandalous as possible for 1933. Great performance in low budget but absorbing film.

Female is more than just a museum piece from that short era after the introduction of sound and before the enforcement of the Hays Code; it's a strangely involving, patently absurd, wildly entertaining movie.

A rather progressive film for it's time, about a ball-busting businesswoman who's a bitch in the boardroom and a beast in the bedroom! (wow, that's quite an alliteration...) That's right, sister, love 'em and leave 'em! Ah, but worry not, folks. Soon enough she meets a handsome Alpha Male who puts her in her place and makes her realize what we knew all along -- the business world is no place for a woman! She dutifully hands over the reins of her company to her new man and declares that she is gonna have nine kids. Atta girl!
