Tremendous totally underrated by the critics a gem

This won't appeal to everyone, but then not everyone is a Woody Allen type movie aficionado. If you are, you'll like this one. I thoroughly enjoyed a quiet little film romp through a postmodern New York City. The ideas behind the character of this fading gigolo are very simple, but true and appropriate for our time of loneliness and emotional distance. Turturro did a fine job on his second movie. I left the theater with a smile on my face and a feeling very light-heated and comfortably happy...

When John Turturro wrote FADING GIGOLO, a film that looks, sounds and feels like a Woody Allen movie, it was only logical that he enlisted Allen to co-star alongside. A crispy clever, mature piece of work, GIGOLO is so unusual in many ways, first and foremost a comedy, with its drama somewhat unsettling and quirky to a fault, FADING GIGOLO is not without its natural charm. It's likely that the film will not find a wide audience as it seems destined to obtain a cult status for the more mature set. It has a heightened sense of intellect within its context. To top it all off, there's the fine cast that includes Sharon Stone, Sofia Vergara, LIev Schreiber and, most surprisingly, Vanessa Paradis, playing not only against type but against any expectation. So while the film got buried by middling reviews and never found its audience, it is still bound to appeal to anyone looking for a Woody Allen film that he once used to make. In this particular case, all he had to do is show up on the set up and be himself.

"Fading Gigolo" is a little precious jewel of a film which shows what a giant and talent John Turturro is. He not only wrote and directed this remarkable film, but stars in it as well, while keeping Woody Allen's inclination to "chew up the scenery" under tight control. Turturro has assembled a varied and talented cast to tell a unique tale with strong sexual and Jewish content. Vanessa Paradis, an actress whose work I am not familiar, delivers a nuanced performance and plays off Liev Schreiber, Allen and Turturro in a beautiful way. Sharon Stone and Sofia Vergara also deliver in roles right out of an acting textbook. In sum, this is a film worthy of your attention for its wit, cinematography, acting and fascinating plot. Bravo to all... most especially to Mr. Turturro!

Vulgar and funny, ''Fading Gigolo'' finds Turturro and Allen in it's best, but the final act is quite disappointing.
