This movie borders on the ridiculous, but is pulled back by an aesthetic portrayal of the supernatural and by its stars.

You can tell its from the 70's by the song they played before the movie. Over dramatic. Recognized many of the actors so I guess that makes me old. This was a pretty good idea for those days. Kind of slow, mostly centered on the shoots it seems. Ending could have been better.

This starts off gloriously funny bad, full of horrible screaming acting and campy ideas about violence and photography. Fayne Dunaway is in Mommy Dearest mode. Alas, it just turns boringly bad.

Too glossy to evoke real sexual tension or, more crucially in this genre, fear, Laura Mars suffers from the over complication of something so simple as serial killing.

John Carpenter wrote the screenplay, it was an okay 70's thriller with a supernatural bent and twist ending and a very young Tommy Lee Jones. Trivia: Lucas chose the Kershner to direct Empire Strikes Back based on how well he developed characters in this film.
