Ned is in the throes of a mid-life crisis. His work as a writer on an outrageous, semi-pornographic TV show is less than satisfying. His fifteen year old son has just told him he is gay and his eleven year old is afraid of, well pretty much everything. When his wife, Jeannie, moves her sick and embittered father from Detroit into their home in NY, it puts added stress on an already strained marriage. And when a sexy female co-worker puts the moves on Ned, the temptation sends him spiraling.

Seems like a first draft that piles up the characters and their issues without assembling them into a dramatic whole. Someone was in a rush to get the cameras rolling.

Eddie Izzard is fabulous, Brian dennehy's character is a jerk, Liev's is boring, and the oldest kid is cool, and Hunt is still gorgeous, even with laugh lines.... BUT the movie feels empty and unfinished....

2011 kicks off on a promising note with this well written and acted indie film that traveled the film festival circuit last year. Helen Hunt and Liev Schrieber grapple with marital intimacy and an aging parent (Brian Dennehy),delivering performances that are nuanced and relatable. The rest of the cast is appealing, particularly Ezra Miller who demonstrates range as the openly gay son who craves freedom but learns it's potential hazards.
