Every Day (2010)

Ned is in the throes of a mid-life crisis. His work as a writer on an outrageous, semi-pornographic TV show is less than satisfying. His fifteen year old son has just told him he is gay and his eleven year old is afraid of, well pretty much everything. When his wife, Jeannie, moves her sick and embittered father from Detroit into their home in NY, it puts added stress on an already strained marriage. And when a sexy female co-worker puts the moves on Ned, the temptation sends him spiraling.

There's something oddly remote about Every Day, which plays like a double-wide version of a perfectly acceptable Showtime pilot. [Blu-ray]

Great cast in a mostly typical domestic pot-boiler. You could probably write the plot yourself after the initial set-up, and the climax is conventionally contrived to happen all in the same night. The son's homosexuality is realistically handled but Eddie Izzard's boss-man lives in a world that doesn't touch reality. What sort of TV show is this??? Hunt's best line was left on the cutting room floor "It's not porn. It's cable."

Decent movie about the real side of the life of someone working in Hollywood. The 'real' troubles that can be faced on the homefront, the real struggles between family. Never really liked Shreiber, but he did play a good role. Wanted to punch him at most points.

Well, haven't we ALL seen this before? As we say in Greece, "to the same play viewers." 'I hate my job, *sob sob*, I hate my boss, *sob sob* I wish my wife was giving it to me more often, *sob sob,* oh, no, my son is gay *sob sob,* damn it I missed my other son's recital because I was playing in the pool with Carla Gugino *sob sob.* ' And all that is JUST from the father's POV. However, I did enjoy this movie. I found it realistic and plausible, not over done and not over the top. I think it had humor, kindness and interesting performances, it was gently intense and refreshing in a strange way. Ezra Miller is, if I might say so, a new actor on his way to greatness. He's quirky and memorable and overlooked despite. For all its good intentions, it still remains a been-there-done-that movie that offers nothing new. Good to spend a quiet evening watching, but nothing more than that.
