herzog's signature hallucinogenic mind maps are perfectly complimented by the razzmatazz of lost souls referred to in the title and the psychedelic and somewhat schizophrenic soundtrack, a blinding combo which leaves the viewer doubting the mundane and affirming the fantastic as the lines between dreams and reality are ill defined. this topsy turvy world advances further on the achievements of "Wild Blue Yonder" as once again we're taken on an adventure to a place that isn't the moon but sometimes it looks like it.

The landscape and scenery spoke for themselves but Werner would introduce you to some very strange characters and would often narrate over thier story "to cut a long boring story short...." this made for a gently humourus look at the small population of scientists in Antarctica. You even learned about Volcano etiquette ! ! !

I love this movie. One of my favorites from Herzog (I seem to be particularly partial to his documentary work). A beautiful, poetic, and deeply, deeply, overpoweringly movingly human look at the spirituality and religion of science--unstructured and impulsive like a series of journal entries (from one of the world's greatest contemporary artists and thinkers), a warm series of portraits and vignettes, and some of the most beautiful images and sounds you will ever experience. A movie that makes you thrill at existence.
