This one is a mixed bag. Not a great movie but not bad either. The real gem here is Russell, just awesome.

I was able to get a bootleg of this at a convention last year and was highly disappointed in it.

I haven't see this in a while but Carpenter's biopic of 'The King' is successfull for one reason... Russell is Elvis! Yes it may not be in depth with Elvis' last and darkest stage of his life but seeing the rise of THE KING and made with not that much money for TV shows how having a great team can produce a great product. Russell may not look like Elvis but he inhabits the character better than the millions of impersonators around the world. To be honest the entore acting from everyone is universally very good and the period look though limited is very believeable. Had they had a huge budget and more time this might not have worked and the low budget quality is it's charm and would be start of a great relationship with Carpenter and Russell.

Not a lot of drama or real insight into the King but a light hearted biopic that has it's moments. Kurt Russell does an excellent Elvis voice, too bad he didn't get to do his own singing.

I thought Kurt Russell did an excellent job at playing Elvis, he had all the right moves, like elvis and everything. In a way he kind of looked like elvis from the side and from a distance, and Shelly Winters looks exactly like Gladys Presley.
