Downhill Racer is a very unique sports film that does tend to be pretty slow but the camerawork and the leads Redford and Hackman raise it up a notch. The film follows a skiier on his rise to glory to get to the Olympics and the troubles along the way not only with skiing but his personal life as well. The movie does seem very slow, but the races are filled with tension and keep you on the edge of your seat.

It's better than most sports films since it avoids sentimentality and falsely romanticizing its unsympathetic egotistical hero.

i was pretty damn bored for the duration of this movie, not really seeing the big draw to it. it's kind of interesting that i watched it a week before the olympics. neat to see gene hackman in the late sixties, still balding.
