Don't Go in the Woods (2012)

Don't Go in the Woods is sound advice, especially when there's a killer on the loose. First-time director Vincent D'Onofrio (Full Metal Jacket, "Law & Order: Criminal Intent") explores love, greed and ruthlessness in this twisted musical/horror hybrid, telling the story of a young band who heads to the woods to get away from their everyday lives in order to focus on writing new songs. Hoping to walk away from the trip with new tunes that will score them their big break, they instead find themselves in the middle of a nightmare beyond comprehension.

This was awful.I hated every song and even the horror parts were lame. Waste of time.

I was really surprised that I liked this film. I think it was the music that really what made it pretty watchable. Is it great no, but not bad either.

An undercooked, "Glee"-like hybrid of grating indie pop songs and forest slasher flick.

The actors are all natural, but no character is developed enough for you to care who is killed next. There's not much suspense, no inventive pacing, no wink-wink irony, no cinematic gimmicks, not much mystery and no awful gore.

Vincent D'Onofrio clearly has some very interesting ideas about fame, madness, and how sometimes these 2 things go hand in hand. Unfortunately, he is unable to successfully translate these ideas into film. Don't Go In The Woods lacks any substance or meaning, and is insipid and boring. It's an admirable first try by D'Onofrio but in the hands of a more capable director maybe this could have been a better film..MAYBE As is, Don't Go In The Woods is a completely terrible and unreedemable film. The music is ear-bleedingly bad, the lyrics are terrible, the script is terrible, the acting is BAD, the characters are those guys who you'd find at a party playing a guitar to songs they created themselves (they're the type who imagine themselves to be artistic even though they aren't) and there is barely any horror element here. Not to mention the whole film is shot in ONE location and one location only, some nondescript woods. I have great respect for D'Onofrio as an actor, but he's yet to prove his skill as a director.
