Jane Froman, an aspiring songstress, lands a job in radio with help from pianist Don Ross, whom she later marries. Jane's popularity soars, and she leaves on a European tour... but her plane crashes in Lisbon, and she is partially crippled. Unable to walk without crutches, Jane nevertheless goes on to entertain the Allied troops in World War II.

A great film. The gown that Jane (Susan Hayward) wears while singing "With a Song In My Heart" in the middle of the film is absolutely beautiful, as are all of the costumes for this film. The songs will melt your heart and also fill you up with nostalgia.

I went in with the heavy load on my shoulder of "LET'S SEE HOW THIS MOVIE WON OVER SINGIN' IN THE RAIN FOR BEST MUSICAL SCORE IN 1952!" (which it did) and was all ready to laugh at it because of it, and despite it's obviousness in some places, overt sentimality and tissue demanding scenes (cue hospital scenes!) and Susan Hayward's uh, broad lip syncing, this was actually enjoyable! The songs are all from the World War II songbook which may have helped get bonus points. But you have to admit the movie's heroine, who I have absolutely never heard of (nor does it really make me wish I did) has a bit of a feel good story, and the movie celebrates that and just ends with the most rah rah ending ever. Also, best prelude to a plane crash ever. LOL

True story of a very talented singer in the 40's who after being in a plane crash, and having life altering injuries, still went overseas and tirelessly entertained the troops. Susan Hayward did an awesome job playing Jane Froman...you couldn't tell she was lipsyncing...and they actually used Jane's real voice for the songs. Some of the scenes and lines were corny and dumb, but when you realize what this woman went through, and the fact that they stick pretty close to her story, it makes the movie that much more interesting and that is the reason I gave this 4 stars.
