An unfunny comedy that should be an embarrassment for anyone involved (except maybe James Brown; he still manages to come across cool in his climactic cameo). The acting is amaeurish, the direction non-existant, and when Aykroyd dons his pimp disguise he looks like a cross between Lon Chaney's Phantom and Truman Capote, with Elton John's wardrobe. Utterly ridiculous. Might be decent fodder for a fun bad movie night, but not much else.

This movie was outstanding. Not just because Dan Aykroyd is in it, but also Fran Drescher and a fabulous cameo by James Brown. I wonder why it isn't on TV?

Mostly when i watch Comedys i laugh inside but this one bring me to laugh my Head off again and again such funny Situations, freaky Characters, Fresh Dialogues and Funky Music Defently a High Class 80's Burner and Fran Drescher in the 80's really was a Hottie

Another underrated film from the 1980s. This 1983 comedy film stars Dan Aykroyd as Clifford Skridlow, a Chicago college professor who is used as a patsy by a pimp and becomes a flamboyant pimp Doctor Detroit, protecting the ladies from a woman mobster known as Mom. A movie with lots of humor and class.
