A classic in its own right. This is another Malick film and has all that comes with it, minus the long running time. Again the cinematography is breathtaking.

People criticize its lack of character development and dialogue but that it the point, its being told from point of view of the little girl and she observes characters and events from a distance, always present but not always fully comprehending the gravity of the situation.

A brilliant, compact tragedy film by Terrence Malick with stunning cinematography by two great cameramen, Babenco and Wexler. Narrated by the younger sister (Linda Manz), it works like some great novels do--we the readers/viewers see more than the unreliable narrator does.
