Dark Night (2017)

Dark Night enigmatically unfolds over the course of a lazy summer day, as it traces the events leading up to a mass shooting in a suburban multiplex. Abandoning the narrative confines of the true crime genre, the story is told through fragmented moments from the lives of several characters, whose fates are tragically intertwined. As the sky grows darker, the placid surface of daily life becomes disturbed by a lurking and inevitable horror.

There are moments of true terror to be found among the silence and the encroaching existential dread in which the film deals most prominently.

Occasionally too emblematic as individuals, the characters collectively mesh into a portrait of a dislocated society elevated by Sutton’s talent for disorienting imagery.

The visuals in this film are outstanding but the story isn't good. I like the approach that the filmmakers took with this film. Even though the movie lacks a real story it's still very interesting to watch due to the visuals. The visuals make you think a lot. I think this is a very great indie film to watch. Love the artsy, dark mood and tone for this film. I think this film would've been much stronger with more dialogue. It felt much longer than 85 minutes due to the lack of dialgue.

We know where he's headed, which allows some agonizing false alarms; he's toying with our expectation for bloodshed, and, on some level, our hunger for it.

The abstracted events transpire, occur, invoke, weighted neither by plot nor a psychological accounting: an atmospheric dream of everyday things, a dark dream of all our todays, lustrous dread.
