Dancing Lady (1933)

Janie lives to dance and will dance anywhere, even stripping in a burlesque house. Tod Newton, the rich playboy, discovers her there and helps her get a job in a real Broadway musical being directed by Patch. Tod thinks he can get what he wants from Janie, Patch thinks Janie is using her charms rather than talent to get to the top, and Janie thinks Patch is the greatest. Steve, the stage manager, has the Three Stooges helping him manage all the show girls. Fred Astaire and Nelson Eddy make appearances as famous Broadway personalities.

I can see why Crawford stepped away from the dance film/fantasy not long after this - she does better when left to verbally spar with her costars. Overall, very enjoyable star-studded 'rags-to-riches' fantasy with some enjoyable songs but most worth it for the tripped out Busby-Berkley style sequence at the end!

This may not be a classic, but there are so many reasons it's worth watching: *gorgeous Joan and sexy Clark *Fred Astaire's film debut *random Three Stooges sightings *great scenes with Joan and her future husband, Franchot Tone *Robert Benchley and a brief uncredited appearance by Eve Arden *the wonderful "Everything I Have is Yours" song and dance sequence *glorious Art Deco sets

dissapointing. rather boring and pointless. basically has no plot and not in the good way. joan crawford is great as usual and i adore her older work because she's so stunning. cool to see her and fred astaire dance together in his debut. and the musical numbers were so ludicrous in a good over-the-top way.

I loved it! Gable is grand, Joan is as spunky as they come and their chemistry is full force in this little gem! A special treat to see Astaire and Crawford dancing together...
