An honest play to screen conversion. Has all the elements of a great movie, has action and a love story. It was like actually seeing my hero Cyrano speaking to me through my screen. A must-see!!

Stanley Kramer's production, directed by Michael Gordon, is well acted by Jose Ferrer, who won the Best Actor Oscar.

This was a good movie and Jose Ferrer gave a commanding performance, but I felt the rest of it could have been better. I realize it's based on a play, but the look of the film was too much like a stage, the sets were pretty bland and it just sort of played out like a play. Regardless, it was an good movie and I loved the opening scenes with Cyrano and his moments with Roxanne. I prefer the 1990 version.
