Cool Hand Luke (1967)

When petty criminal Luke Jackson is sentenced to two years in a Florida prison farm, he doesn't play by the rules of either the sadistic warden or the yard's resident heavy, Dragline, who ends up admiring the new guy's unbreakable will. Luke's bravado, even in the face of repeated stints in the prison's dreaded solitary confinement cell, "the box," make him a rebel hero to his fellow convicts and a thorn in the side of the prison officers.

"What we've got here is a failure to communicate." One of the greatest films of the 60s. A tale of one man's unbending resolve and refusal to conform to authority. Terrific performances from Paul Newman and George Kennedy. This film boasts excellent cinematography courtesy of Conrad L. Hall. I thought Stuart Rosenberg's direction was similar in style to that of Michael Cimino's, therefore another plus point. Lalo Schifrin's punchy score is also worthy of note and complements the film very well.

One of my favourite movies of all time, can't count the amount of times I've watched it, gotta be in the 30's. From start to finish it's just a beautiful movie, with amazingly touching scenes. Can't recommend this movie enough, a masterpiece of filmmaking, Paul Newman giving the performance of his life and one of the greatest scores put to film

Refusing to conform to prison life, choosing instead to march to the beat of his own drum, Paul Newman's Luke is one of the greatest characters ever to appear in film. His cool nature makes the viewer gasp.
