Conspiracy (1939)

American Steve Kendall, a freighter's radio officer, discovers seaman Carlson sending an unauthorized message ashore as the ship approaches his war-poised homeland. Carlson is shot in cold blood when he jumps ship and Kendall, implicated in the espionage, swims ashore to avoid arrest. A woman he meets at the dock hides him in her apartment, where he learns Carlson was her brother, and they both work in a sabotage ring. Nedra is a singer at Tio's Cafe, and she approaches Tio for help when both the saboteurs and the secret police try to capture Steve.

Revenge movie starring Val Kilmer as McPherson, an ex-Marine that lost a leg in Iraq, however his life was saved by mexican colleague Miguel. Fast forward 2 years, Miguel invites McPherson to live in the border town of New Lago, with his wife and kids. But when he arrives the place is deserted and nobody seems to remember Miguel's family. When McPherson starts to ask questions the owner of the town corporation and the sheriff get upset. This is a sort of a very childlish thriller, the plot reminds me of some episodes of the A Team, the characters are divided between extremely good guys and extremely bad blokes. It is also the archetypical story of a fair man against a corrupted town that wins with the help of the vulnerable but strong female and some villagers that still have some sense of justice. It is indeed very predictable, but actually was slightly better than expected, With a bit of TLC and a better quality this would have been an ok movie, as it is is just another low budget violent film that, logically, didn't make it to the cinemas and went straight into DVD.

This movie was crazy and Val Kilmer was crazy. It really wasn't funny, but I laughed....I laughed a lot. Maybe it was the music. :)

Horribly written, directed and acted. Not to mention it's a piece of liberal crap propaganda. So in that way, the quality of its execution perfectly fits the quality of its message. You get a star for that.

An ok film, which would have been better served not being so obviously anti-Iraq war. Val Kilmer is solid here, though probably too old for the part. He keeps the movie enjoyable, doing well with the action scene, portraying a marine with ptsd well. His performance helps overcome certain elements that would have dragged it down, mostly do to the writing and obvious message it was trying to force on the viewer. Ignoring that problem you see a fairly solid low budget action effort. It is good to see Kilmer getting more films; he was always a good actor. I am looking forward to seeing his new film Felon.
