This is more like a comedy than an action. Shelley Winters cracked me up as 'Mummy' the drug lord. Not as B grade like a lot of blaxploitation movies. Likeable!

My mom bought had this DVD when I was in high school. I got bored one day and watched this movie and couldn't stop watching it. I would have loved to been able to grow up in the 70's. Cleopatra Jones was a very sexy woman to me, she had long sexy legs, she was a strong black woman of authority, and she could definitely hold her own. Who doesn't want a woman like that?.....

"LAPD-officer-turned-UN-spy, Cleopatra Jones, hooks up with a handsome thief as she tries to keep a diabolical weapon from being used against the UN Secretary General". Well that's a pile of nonsense. Cleopatra Jones, US special agent, heroine and goddess to all fights the baddies (drug barons, dirty cops, Huggy Bear, etc etc) and frees the world of crime. Or something. Either way, you know the storyline is going to involve all your 70's favourites, such as made-fo-TV action sequences, funky outfits and dodgy dialogue. The script and the music aren't a spit on The Mack, but the plot sits easier on 21st century sensibilities and Tamara Dobson is beeeauttiful.... even if she can't fight for toffee.

fun to watch but in my opinion not as good as the pam grier flicks: "coffy" and "foxy brown". cleo is some sort of agent for the u.s. government but she returns home to LA to protect a halfway house/shelter that is important to her, which is part of a plan to kill her. in turkey she destroyed a poppy field that belonged to an LA crime boss named mommy... it's a crazy story really.
