Special Agent Cleopatra Jones enforces the law in high fashion. Nobody has dressed better to burn a poppy field in Turkey. Dobson fits the bill in the lead but Shelley Winters provides a ruinous presence as Mommy in an otherwise pretty good film.

With a leading actress who lacks any charisma and a harmless, forgettable plot whose too many characters make us only confused about the relationship between them or who is who, this is a passable blaxploitation movie to be seen when you have nothing better to do.

With a tagline that exclaims âShe 6 feet 2â? of dynamiteâ¦and the hottest super agent ever!â? Cleopatra Jones is a campy foray into the blaxploitation genre (at times, it almost seems like youâ(TM)re watching a 70â(TM)s sitcom), and one that seems to be more inspired by James Bond movies than by itâ(TM)s super pimp peers. Jones carries an array of gadgets: there's her Corvette, complete with a hidden arsenal in the door; her karate; her costumes, and especially her embossed federal ID card, which indicates she's working for the President himself. The main bad guys, by the way, are a gang of white drug pushers led Shelly Winters who plays a lesbian Ma Barker-type character named âMommy.â? The film cruises along with a certain low-brow gusto but, ultimately, is just plain silly and quite forgettable.

Part James Bond + Blaxploitation = Cleopatra Jones. The formula is simple, and so is this film. Gone are the sultry jazz and funk, and in its place are fun and sweeping symphonic melodies. It may not be as serious as other blaxploitation films, but the sheer ridiculousness makes up for it. Butch redhead lesbian drug lords, a bulldozer in a fight, a 6'2 mammoth of a women (Tamara Dobson still holds the record for tallest leading lady), and all sorts of other wacky shenanigans. A fun film that is definitely not meant to be taken seriously.
