another Federico Fellini's movie with the couple...

The first few scenes of this film are beautifully and theatrically choreographed. They are visually appealing and quite difficult to pull off with such fluidity. Fellini makes his viewers feel like they're right in the centre of the action. It's initially a clever film with some overarching commentary on feminism, but it quickly stumbles down a rabbit hole with Fellini's fantastical style erupting into a mish-mash of scenes that lose the thread. Too bad it got away from him. Some really imaginative and strange individual scenes though.

I am conflicted on this film. It's somehow a scathing indictment of sexism and yet a shameless embracing of it at the same time. I suppose that may have been the point, Fellini always claimed to obsessed with women, but he also seems to retain a strong amount of admittedly immaturte sexuality so I suppose he may have felt conflicted about feminism himself at the time. Whatever his intention and despite some of it's more disagreeable elements this is still a bizzare and over-the-top amalgamation of surreal visual spectacle and bawdy humor and still comes out as one my favorite fellini films.

c'est un peu n'importe quoi, Fellini lui même est pas trop content avec ce film, quoique ya certains trucs qui valent le détour, mais dans l'ensemble, bleh...
