A rash of bizarre murders in New York City seems to point to a group of grotesquely deformed vagrants living in the sewers. A courageous policeman, a photojournalist and his girlfriend, and a nutty bum, who seems to know a lot about the creatures, band together to try and determine what the creatures are and how to stop them.

CHUD is about homeless people who mutated into cannibalistic mutants who come to the surface to feed on John Goodman. Its not for everyone but its a film from my childhood and I love it and recommend everyone to see it.

Right up my alley. CHUD Alley, that is! It alerts us to the inherant dangers of street people. And environmental agencies. And people who eat quarters. And CHUDs. Especially the dangers of CHUDs.

The infamous bad horror film isn't even close to being as bad as its reputation suggests. True the acting and story is not the greatest but it makes up for that with great atmosphere, chilling sequences and truly terrifying monsters. I like to think of it as a sort of homage to horror films of the 50s and 60s, with in of itself is a nice breath of fresh air that the genre needs during this period.

Really enjoyed this. There's nothing quite like a good, 1980s horror film on a dark night. The sombre electronic theme music would sound out of place anywhere else, but it's perfect for this tale of flawed, everyday folks caught up in an escalatingly nightmarish situation. The sewer-dwelling monsters are genuinely horrid, but the real menace is above ground... Go on: treat yourself, and find out the true answer to the question: what does C.H.U.D. really stand for?
