Looks like it was backed by Tourism Australia, glorious images of the Australian country fill the screen in almost every frame. Its a very slight, comedy/drama of a road movie which feels very familiar. It's non fussy direction and relative sentimentality might not be for everyone, but its good natured script is charming in places making up for some dated humour and patchy plotting at the start. Hogan looks like piece of old leather and proves he has only one settiing, while Jacobson also seems to be on familiar ground playing another likeable but slightly pathetic character (see 'Kenny'). Reminded me of the Emilio Estevez directed father/son journey 'The Way' from last year in tone and narrative scope.

This was a really good movie. It told a great story of a relationship between a father and son, how Boots tries to mend everything by heading off on a fishing trip. It's funny & sad and everything else put together.

A road movie that offers a series of simple but singular pleasures, most of which stem from the way in which Charlie and Boots begin to relax in one another's company. Murphy's straight-forward direction and the genuine charisma that's drawn from Hogan and Jacobson's characters, make this film fun. It's a superbly relaxed and good-natured film. Murphy loves those big open vistas of sunny Australian skies, sheep-studded plains and verdant hillsides, Dorothea Mackellar's wide brown land. We travel through a string of NSW towns - Hay, Forbes, Tamworth, Tenterfield - before moving into Queensland. The story's minor crises are never overplayed for crude laughs, and the small parts are filled by a host of veteran actors who seem to have enjoyed themselves as much as I did. VERDICT: "Full Price" - My second highest rating (Positive to Mixed reaction). This is a rating to a movie I view as very entertaining and well made, and definitely worth paying the full price at a theatre to see or own on DVD. It is not perfect, but it is definitely excellent.

this is a surprisingly good Australian film! Its simple plot works well for it, as it does not take away from the fact that this movie is about the relationship between the two main characters. It's also a good road trip movie. Enjoyable and light, it leaves you feeling good.
