I have always loved with this film despite the tragic ending. The true story is so inspiring and Virginia McKenna plays the lead female part in such an understated way that you could only warm to Violette Szabo. From the film it is easy to see that Violette lived about a thousand lives in the 2nd world war as she fell in love, married, experience motherhood and widowhood. Not forgetting her work as a British agent and being captured only to fall for another British agent. More than most people will experience in one lifetime!! Her execution was an absolute travesty.

I watched this with my mother. I cried at the end and looked over to see her weeping too. A great 4 kleenex movie

Another great film i have loved since childhood! I was very lucky a few years ago to meet the granddaughter of Violette Szabo and i had a fantastic conversation with her about this story. Should be compulsory viewing!!!

This movie is simply amazing. It tells the story of a London shopgirl called Violette Bushell whose normal life changes drastically when her husband, who is a French soldier, gets killed in action. Violette shows great bravery and courage. The acting is amazing especially Virginia McKenna and Billie Whitelaw. The Life That I Have The life that I have Is all that I have And the life that I have Is yours The love that I have Of the life that I have Is yours and yours and yours. A sleep I shall have A rest I shall have Yet death will be but a pause For the peace of my years In the long green grass Will be yours and yours and yours. Get your tissues ready.
