Filip buys an 8mm movie camera when his first child is born. Because it's the first camera in town, he's named official photographer by the local Party boss. As an amateur documentarian myself, the subject matter (power of film-making, dangers of irresponsible storytelling, hurdles to the creative process) resonated personally.

I BECOME A BIT OBSESSIVE TOO WHEN IM IN CAMERA MODE SO I COULD RELATE. EVERYTHING I SEE I WANT TO DOCUMENT. NICE SUBJECT MATTER. NEAT LIL MOVIE.

Kieslowski's testament as an amateur film-maker.The movie shows that, not the movie as a whole. The movie within a movie is a brilliant characteristic executed perfectly by his alter ego Jerzy Stuhr. From the first frame to the last second we as audience feel the passion of one's dream and the consequences around his community.Special appearance by director Zanussi, another legend of Polish cinema.

I will say that I like Kieslowski's later films more, such as the Three Colours trilogy or the Double Life of Veronique, but this was still an interesting look at the beginnings of an obsession for filmmakers. Some funny satire on dealing with a corporation.

This is the 4th (of many more) Kieslowski films I've seen, and every time he amazes me at how he can make characters so realistic and down-to-earth that you hardly remember you're watching a movie. I thought it was fascinating.
