Set in France during the mid-1970s, Vanessa, a former dancer, and her husband Roland, an American writer, travel the country together. They seem to be growing apart, but when they linger in one quiet, seaside town they begin to draw close to some of its more vibrant inhabitants, such as a local bar/café-keeper and a hotel owner.

Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt are awesome together. this movie is really sad, you are watching a loving couple having contempt for each other. that is so sad when a relationship starts to fall apart. Agelina & Brad play it out so real, it's like they know what it feels like.

Underrated, eerie, and subtly goes incredibly far with By The Sea. Aside from minor technical errors, Angelina Jolie Pitt captures an intriguing tale about a disturbed marriage and its penalties being involved in one.

Likely to be dismissed by many, it's a charming film that feels like a love letter to an earlier time while also toying with our contemporary proclivities. Easily Jolie's finest work to date.
