Bug (2002)

A small boy squashing an insect sets in motion a series of events, large and small, that include a lost restaurant reservation, a drunken fender-bender, disruption of basic cable television service, and more than one relationship falling apart. One person's disaster becomes another's boon, and vice versa--because a man loses his job, a young girl becomes the lead ballerina in the school play, which in turn causes the death of a pet pig. These characters weave around Los Angeles and each other as seemingly mundane events fall into place, putting them on a collision course with a common fate and one heroic act of competence.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. It's weird as hell and interesting. Most sane people probably wont care for it.

Tragic and DISTURBING. Please do not watch if you feel fragile!

The opening pan-in shot is so gorgeous and dramatic. This shot justified the entire film.

As a play, it was probably much better. But this is still good. The lines of dialogue are very enticing. And the story is captivating. The plot is ingenious and the acting was superb. Very good.

An unbelievably intense film. Not a horror picture, the film is instead a journey into damaged and wounded psyches, a dissection of characters most films wouldn't bother with. It is also a study in claustrophobia, both psychological and spatial. Friedkin directs with verve and intensity that belies his age and experience, feverishly unfolding a story with the manic obsession of his characters. The cast is brilliant, reaching levels of openness and raw passion that are as shocking and disquieting as anything Hollywood has ever sent our way.
