From the advertising, I expected a totally different film from what it actually is. It's advertised as a straight-up horror, but it's far from it. Sure it has the horror elements and the terrors, but it's more of a drama and a tale of two people's demise into insanity. The performances are outstanding from Ashley Judd and Michael Shannon, among the rest of the cast, and it's probably their performances that make it so brilliant. The plotting is clever and suspenseful, and the screenplay is just sure genius. The character development is also worth mention. It's some of the strongest development work i've seen in a long, long time. The character's change drastically from the beginning of the film to it's sudden, shocking ending.

I loved the Ansel Adams style opening pan-in shot. This is one of the minority of plays that easily translates to film. As with most surrealism, I love it because I enjoy the surrealistic element of not being sure where reality ends andl fantasy (in this case, delusion) begins.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. It's weird as hell and interesting. Most sane people probably wont care for it.

Brilliant. Ashley Judd was incredible in this part. What an actress. Really loved this, wonderful script and acting.
