Lovely, gifted Irene Foster hopes that her childhood sweetheart-turned Broadway producer Robert Gordon will recognize her--and her talent. 2: Entertaining enough story, but most of the musical numbers definitely leave something to be desired. Powell is great, but I could take or leave much of the rest of the cast. The non-stage musical numbers seem a bit too forced and artificial as well. I think this series, along with the Gold Diggers series went on for a bit too long.

The original story is credited to Moss Hart... but it was all about the production numbers and the spotlight dances by Powell.

Ah yes. The Broadway Melody of 1936...the sequel to the Broadway Melody (which I am reviewing next) and the prequel to the Broadway Melody of 1940. A good chance to catch the old vaudeville crowd but there isn't much to the story here.
