Tuneful, danceful, full of laughs too--fun MGM series entry.

2: Entertaining enough story, but most of the musical numbers definitely leave something to be desired. Powell is great, but I could take or leave much of the rest of the cast. The non-stage musical numbers seem a bit too forced and artificial as well. I think this series, along with the Gold Diggers series went on for a bit too long.

This a lavish, frothy movie with terrific music, great acing and outstanding dancing. The story is thin--young Broadway producer needs a leading lady and can't see that she's right in front of him. Lots of snappy dialogue, mistaken identities and sumptuous costumes. The dancing, by Eleanor Powell, Nick Long Jr., June Knight and Buddy Ebsen is first rate. The singing by Frances Langford, June Knight and Robert Taylor(!) is also great. Robert Taylor was very young but holds his own with established pros Jack Benny, Una Merkel and Sid Silvers. There's no message here, no deep thoughts, just top notch entertainment.

Ah yes. The Broadway Melody of 1936...the sequel to the Broadway Melody (which I am reviewing next) and the prequel to the Broadway Melody of 1940. A good chance to catch the old vaudeville crowd but there isn't much to the story here.

Eleanor Powell just fantastic amazing tap dancer!!! And Robert Taylor a hot leading men. Great story and production =)
