Befriended by aristocrat Sebastian Flyte, Oxford student Charles Ryder finds that the power and privilege experienced by the family is seductive. On a visit to the ancestral home, Brideshead, he falls in love with his friend's sister, Julia. Intelligent, deep and very well acted... actually made me interested in reading the book. Although it showed the "ills" of the characters beliefs and lifestyles - it didn't condemn them. I thought it was a balanced portrayal for the time period.

DVD, after giving it some thought, felt this movie had no loopholes. Very well directed, cinematography, plot, acting especially EmmaThompson, so i'm giving it a 5 star rating and a most highly recommended to see. It has both an individual dramatic angle and a spiritual religious angle.

I saw the series when I was a kid practicing my english by watching the late SCN movies, hope is half as good.
