Boots and Saddles (1937)

Young Englishman inherits ranch which he wants to sell, but Gene's gonna turn him into a real westerner instead. When new owner Spud arrives from England, Autry convinces him not to sell the ranch but to raise horses for the Army. When both Autry's and Neale's bids are the same, the Colonel calls for a race to decide the winner. But that night Neale has Autry's stable burned.

its a passable B-western starring Gene Autry, with all of his songs and a lifeless plot about his character selling horses to the calavary but his rival stands in his way. 6/10

62/100. This early Gene Autry western is among his better ones. Good score with a Mexican flair, and several memorable songs, The plot has a different twist with the young English lad and Smiley Burnette provides amusing support.

Boots & Saddles is a good excuse to listen to vintage Cowboy music. Gene is as wooden as ever in this classic good guy/bad guy movie. Thankfully the tunes come in rapid succession. The restoration work is very good and compliments the great old camera work.
